About me

SheaRoots began life because I have had eczema, urticaria and allergic skin conditions all of my life and have gone through a seemingly endless list of creams and lotions, some prescribed and some advertised as natural. They either didn't work or were only effective in the short-term. Ultimately they either had to be re-applied more frequently or made my skin worse.

I am not a chemist, nor have a PhD. in Hieroglyphics, yet I found that I needed these qualifications to even begin to understand half of the chemical ingredients listed in commercial moisturising creams, even those labelled as 'natural' and 'organic'. I decided that I didn't want to use creams containing potentially harmful chemicals such as phthalates and paraffin. This started me on the adventure of finding out what other cultures use for moisturising, countries where their only readily available resources are naturally grown. In some African countries moisturisers made from plant based ingredients have been used through the generations simply because they work rather than any influence of corporate advertising.

What I can promise is that my creams are 100 percent pure and organic. I make each and every one of them and do not use manipulative wording such as 'contains' as a way of hiding other less pleasant ingredients. Every ingredient used to make my creams have a purpose for your skin, nothing is added just to make it smell a certain way or to act as a preservative.

I very much believe in a holistic way of life. For me, there is little point in trying to treat my skin with ingredients bursting with natural goodness if I then go and disregard what I eat or how I live. If you have dry skin it is also worth looking at other factors such as the soaps, washing powder and anything else you may think may contribute to it. After all, nobody knows your body better than you.
